What's the Theme?
Five theme entries, and they all have something in common. Figure out what it is, and send me an email;
don't send the completed grid, just a note with a few words describing
what you think those four things have in common. A randomly-selected
solver will receive a signed copy of StearsWords: Volume 1, and a Starbucks gift card.
I've been told my themes are too difficult, so in response, I've created one that's even more difficult. Are you up for the challenge?

Why You'll Never See Ads on My Website
I hate ads. I hate commercials on TV, I hate obtrusive billboards that pollute the countryside, and I hate pop-up ads, banner ads, and blinking "You Just Won!" ads online.
So, I won't put them on my website. I stopped putting them on this blog because they're ugly. I tried...I really did. But I absolutely hate ads, and I won't have anything to do with them.
Look, if you like solving my puzzles, feel free to "Like" me on Facebook, follow me on Tumblr, read my blog, join me in the vast wasteland that is Google+, or tweet me on Twitter. I'm all over the Internet; it's not that hard to find me. That's on purpose--I want my fans to have full access to my puzzles and whatnot, using the social media they prefer.
If you really like them, feel free to send me a tip--enough to buy a cup of coffee, or enough to buy a new laptop (which I could really use), it's up to you. I'm not going to blast you with "BUY ME" ads or redirects or pop-ups or pop-unders. I would love to get paid, because my kids like to eat, but I'll still post free puzzles every week regardless.
If you really, really like solving StearsWords puzzles, sign up to get them delivered to your email inbox the day before I post them, and buy my books. I guarantee, you won't get any spam from me--I don't have that kind of ambition. And I won't share your email with anyone. That would be a huge violation of your privacy, and that's not my job; that's what the government is for.
You'll never see ads on my website because I don't like ads. And I hope you'll enjoy one of the few ad-free spaces left on the Internet as much as I do.

It's on like Donkey Kong!
This week's featured StearsWords crossword puzzle is an homage to an old friend.
Can you believe that "Donkey Kong" is going to be 32 years old this
week? It's true! The video game "Donkey Kong" was released on July 9,
1981. My homage to the entire Kong family is a barrel of fun. It's on,
